A known shipper is a business that has been vetted and validated under air-cargo security rules as a trusted source of cargo, permitting its shipments to move on passenger aircraft with standard rather than heightened screening. Establishing known-shipper status requires meeting security requirements and being verified through the aviation security program, and it materially affects how quickly and on which flights a company's air freight can travel. Cargo from unknown shippers faces additional screening or restrictions, so the designation is important for exporters relying on fast, passenger-aircraft belly capacity.
