ACE

Also known as: Automated Commercial Environment

The Automated Commercial Environment is the United States government's primary electronic system for processing imports and exports, serving as the single window through which the trade community files entries and manifests and through which customs and partner agencies collect and share data. By consolidating what were once many separate paper and electronic processes into one platform, ACE speeds clearance, reduces duplicate filings, and gives both government and industry better visibility into shipments. Filing accurately and completely in the system is fundamental to modern customs compliance, and its message sets carry the partner-agency data that determine admissibility.

The system every U.S. entry passes through, and the reason your broker asks for data in the shape they do. For importers the useful part is the ACE portal: your own entry history, liquidation dates and CBP messages, visible without asking anyone. Very few importers have an account, and every importer should.

Where it matters for compliance

  • The portal gives the importer direct visibility of their entries, holds and liquidation dates.
  • Reports from ACE are the practical starting point for any internal compliance review.
